Laparoscopic Fundoplication
Laparoscopic fundoplication is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related conditions. During the procedure, a surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and uses a laparoscope to wrap the top of the stomach (fundus) around the lower esophagus. This creates a valve that helps prevent stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus, alleviating symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation. Laparoscopic fundoplication offers advantages such as faster recovery, less pain, and reduced scarring compared to traditional open surgery. It is an effective option for managing severe GERD and improving patients’ quality of life.
